Dog Friendly Beaches in the South Hams

Part of a great dog friendly holiday at moor view is being able to enjoy walking on the beach with your dog. Each beach has its own regulations on dog walking, and you’ll find some ban dogs during the summer. However, there are many beaches that allow dogs on beaches throughout the year and there are those that provide an area especially for dog walking.

All the following beaches allow dogs all year around.

Beesands Beach TQ7 2EL

Beesands has got all the right ingredients for a dog friendly holiday, and as you might expect is perfect for a dog friendly visit. It’s a mile-long shingle beach backed by fields and a freshwater lake. Fishing boats still offer up the catch of the day on the village green and the fresh crab sandwiches served locally have to be right at the top of any gastronome’s wish list. To get a real flavour of the West Country, there are a number of guest houses and B&Bs within walking distance of the sands. However, there is more than just sea and sunshine to be enjoyed here.

Dawlish Town Beach EX7 9PW

Within a short walk from the town centre, Dawlish Town Beach is ideal to escape the hustle and bustle of the town. The beach is sandy and is backed by stunning cliffs.

Dogs are welcome to the left of the viaduct, all the way towards Dawlish Warren apart from 100 metres before the large red rocky outcrop.

Ness Cove Beach TQ14 0HP

The Ness beach is known to have been used by smugglers in the past. Although it’s origins are not not certain it remains a wonderful way to get down to the beach, with it’s dark entrance and windy path through the heart of the cliff ending with a wonderful view down onto the beach as you exit at the other end. Dogs allowed all year round.

Salcombe North Sands Beach TQ8 8LD

Crouched between two headlands in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the beach is rural in character yet conveniently close to the facilities of the town of Salcombe. The beach is totally submerged at high tide. Dogs welcome all year round.

Torcross Beach (Slapton Sands) TQ7 2EA

On top of being an extremely picturesque and popular beach, Slapton Sands plays an important part in the survival of some of the UK’s rarest flora and fauna. So if you’re looking for a cracking beach holiday with the opportunity to do a little bit of exploring on the side, Slapton Sands should be on your list of ‘must visit’ destinations.

A polite reminder to our customers who bring their dogs on holiday. Whilst we welcome dogs at Moor View, we are a tranquil adult only park for dog owners and non-dog owners alike. All of our guests expect and deserve a peaceful holiday. Dogs that cause excessive noise, display aggressive behaviour, and owners who neglect cleaning up after their pets may be reminded of their obligations to our other guests and to the park. It’s important to note that we ask guests not to leave their pets unattended on the pitch when they leave the park if there is any chance that the dog may become distressed or cause a problem for other guests. We do reserve the right to refuse customers or ask them to leave the moor view should their behaviour disrupt the tranquillity of the park and /or prove a nuisance to other guests.
